Santa Rita

(37 Ratings)
"Gay friendly Mexican restaurant"
Even though it's located on the other side of the University as most of Austin's gay bars, Santa Rita is known as gay friendly.

oh sooo good!

Great margarita, not too sweet. I had the pork and pineapple tacos- Amazing! And he had the Fajita Tacos and they are all gone, so there you go! Crissy took care of us, she was sweet and very helpful!

Great Food, Cheap Margaritas and ABBA

Came here by myself on a lark after reading the only review on here about a hip, gay-friendly Tex-Mex place in Austin. My partner had abandoned me to have dinner with professional colleagues, and I had a hankering for Tex-Mex, so I tried Santa Rita. Had a great time: good food, cheap margaritas, cool crowd and a great waiter. Had the chicken combo plate, and they brought the taco out first, and then the enchilada, perfect because I was hungry. My waiter was intelligent and engaging--we had a great conversation too, given the fact that I was alone that night. This is a great people watching place that seems very gay-friendly without being gay-ghettoized. And the blond bombshell of a of a hard-driving, whip-cracking dominatrix restaurant manager in all black sporting a pony tail was a sight to behold! Who can fault a restaurant that serves good food, has cheap margaritas, and plays tawdry 70's hits as music--Abba's Dancing Queen and ELO's Sweet Talking Woman among them. Had a great time and will definitely go back next time I am in town.

Amazing Mexican!

Native Austinite here. This is by far one of my favorite new places in Austin. Amazing, gay friendly mexican restaurant. I believe it might even be gay owned? Mondays their fajitas for two is only $9.95 and delicious.
