Austin Black Pride: Movie Screening of 'Pariah'

Far too often in mainstream media LGBTQ People of Color are excluded from narratives that share our stories. The black and queer narrative is often made an afterthought, or storyline that is not worthy of the spotlight; and we know how problematic this can be. Austin Black Pride would like to take the time to acknowledge and celebrate queer black visionaries, filmmakers, directors and actors. We present to you on Thursday, July 28th, at 6:30 PM 'Pariah'. The contemporary drama is a coming-of-age story about an African-American teen named Alike, who is quietly but firmly embracing her identity as a lesbian. We'll follow as Alike juggles conflicting identities and risks friendship, heartbreak, and family in a desperate search for sexual expression. This screening is FREE, thanks to the generousity of the George Washington Carver Museum & Cultural Center for granting us access to their space.
