What: Austin's 12th Annual AIDS Candlelight Memorial Service -2011
Theme - Touching Lives"
When: Sunday, May 15th, 2011 - Free & Confidential HIV Testing from
7pm-8:30pm with Memorial Service from 7:30pm - 8:30pm. This AIDS
Candlelight Memorial Service occurs on the third Sunday in May every
year.
Where: Republic Square Park - Between 4th & 5th Streets and Guadalupe & San Antonio Streets - Downtown Austin. There is free parking on
surrounding streets.
In Case of Rain: Services will be held at the Central Presbyterian Church located at (San Jacinto & 8th Streets) in Austin, TX.
Why: The AIDS Candlelight Memorial is the largest and oldest grassroots
mobilization campaign for HIV/AIDS awareness in the world and is led by
local volunteer "Candlelight Coordinators & Committees," who host
memorials for their communities worldwide. It's purpose is to honor all
those affected by the AIDS pandemic, as well as to educate about
HIV/AIDS, the respect for human rights of people living with HIV,
influence local and national policy makers, and create community
dialogue about HIV and AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment.
Cost: Admission is Free and Open to the Public. Friends, Family Members
& Love Ones of all Ages are encouraged to attend, bring their candles &
represent those who have passed and or living with the chronic illness
of HIV/AIDS.
