Sometimes it seems that advocacy consists of yelling in the streets (Get OUT, Get ACTIVE, Get EQUAL! - GetEQUAL Texas) or calling, writing, or visiting elected officials (Equality Texas Lobby Day). Another second of thought, and ‘education organizations’ come to mind (e.g. Transgender Education Network of Texas). After that, it may take longer to think of other ways to advocate for change. You may be interested in something you can do in small bits of time, or requiring different skills than the usual modalities.
People who are creating change in a variety of ways will talk about how they advocate for social justice, and where they see it fitting into the process of change. Yes, the big three mentioned at the beginning will be represented. We’ll also hear from advocates working on the local, inter-organizational, & intra-organizational levels, and others using the creative arts as advocacy.
