Another good bar, check out and see if Gabe is bartending, he has been making my drinks for years and it very good!
The bar itself is trying to be a bit more upscale than Oilcan's and it is, but not by much, the dance floor is small, real small so if you want to dance, i'd head over to Oilcan's.. or if you are into country music, rainbow cattle company.

This place tries to look trendy, suave, and chic, but the only thing truly different in the air is that people there think they are given an environment in which to act snobby and pretentious, although they are the same people that frequest all the other nearby bars/clubs. Some bartenders there are cute and the older or more experienced ones are more reliable. Drinks overpriced. It has a nice patio area if you do not mind being choked with cigarette smoke. Dance floor highly inadequate for the space of club and number of patrons; might as well put a hot tub in place. HORRIBLE flow in the place. And waiting in the line -- PFFT WHATEVER!!! So not Studio 54

Rain has more "class" than most of the other gay bars in town. Young crowd, good bartenders most of the time, and a trendier venue. DJs are a cut above the Austin average, too.

I had a lousy experience with my last visit. It was a weekday 7/26/07 not a real big crowd by any standard. When it was time to close my bar tab I discovered the bartender gave my card to another patron who also opened a tab, but when this patron closed his bar tab he really was closing mine because the bartender mixed the tabs up and gave my credit card away. To make a long story short they lost my credit card. The patron they gave my card to went off to Oilcans and ran up $34.00 on my credit card.. I still do not know why the bartender got the tabs mixed up. I would recommend going to Oilcans as they swipe your card and give it back immediately with no possibility of a mix up. I am still fighting the credit card company about the fraudulent charge.

I travel to Austin frequently to visit friends and I've never been that impressed by any of the bars. You would assume in a city of some 700,000 people, and a metropolitan area of over 1.5 million there would be more bars with more variety.but there are only about 6 or 7 at any one time.Rain is newer and touts itself as an upscale place but like all the other bars it's not. It's an old warehouse with a cement floor and crummy bathrooms.while I'll admit that the bartenders in the front bar are cute and pleasant..the majority of the patron are pretentious and snobby.as with a lot of people in Austin.Personally I recommend About Time or Charlie's though the locals will decry these places as dives when in reality Rain and Oil can harry's are not much better they just get the crowds hence they are the places to go. Please get over yourself a bar is a bar in this town..And oh yeah Im not waiting in any line to get into this place...WTF they think it's F*#king studio 54...god help me....

Great DJs, music, and bartenders attract a mixed and friendly crowd. Prepare to stand in line on weekends. Lively dancing even if the floor is somewhat small.

Rain is nice and all, but I found that OCH was much less crowded, had a nicer crowd, and better service. hotties r ragin hot at both though!!!!!!!

I checked it out a few times when they had hip-hop night on Thursdays (only gay spot in town that catered to the hip hop community) and it was nice while it lasted. I liked to see that back if they would allow only 21 and up crowd. Lets face it how many gay clubs in Austin really want to cater to the Latino & Black gay community. Obviously NONE!!!!!

I thought it was to click-ish kinda like high school b.s. to me if you aren't someone that fits in a group then you are pushed out to in the dark given dirty looks and icnored. I will stay with OCH the people are alot nicer.

The new place to hang out but not the place to dance. A trendy lounge with nice views. If you want to dance there is still OCH! Too bad we could not fuse the two bar together. OCH needs Rain's new and refreshing atomsphere and Rain needs OCH's size and dance floor!

Yes, this is the new kid on the block but doing very well. The majority of the staff came from the one time almighty OCH. Very nice interior, drinks, music, and nice eye candy! If you are looking for a good night out, Rain is your place. It is not a dance club because there is no real dance floor but overall it is the best in town! Yes, OCH is a dance club but it is OUTDATED! Austin needs a new dance club but until then, you will probably have more fun in the Rain anyhow.

Any new 'upscale' bar is a breath of fresh air. When Rain opened everyone was saying, thank god! OCH is fun, but it's getting a little long in the tooth. Rain, on the other hand, is fresher with a larger (covered) patio, great bartenders (most 'defected' from OCH) and atmosphere, and now that the front section is open, it's easily THE place for Sunday happy hour. There's even talk of punching through the wall in the patio and expanding into half of the old Boyz Cellar. We hope so...now if only OCH can take over the front half of Boyz Cellar with a doorway... but I'm not holding my breath for that one.

I hate waiting in line to get in to this place when it is really packed. I won't do it. Hopefully, w/ the newly open front bar which has a pool table & seating this will aleviate some of the problem. Scotty, Jonathon, Andy the rest of the guys...even the new Carlo do a great job & this is why I continue to go back time & time again. Now if only the dance floor could be bigger!!!

Hot,Hung, and huge strippers. I was shocked to see some hot strippers, seeing most bars have little twinks for strippers.Great drink prices, great happy hour, a little bit of drug useage in the bathroom but no as much as charlies.

Rain is both boring and too small. The "dance floor" is miserable. The cruising flow is awful, and the bartenders are haughty and rude. On the plus side, the bathrooms look nice - but are often filthy. Skip rain, head somewhere else.

Although somewhat pleasing to the eye, Rain rates pluses for environment and bar layout. Good use of lighting and somewhat comfortable atmosphere, but what's up with that empty space in the center with all the flashing colored lights beneath it? (Waste of space in a perfectly good lounge atmosphere!)
But, despite its great aesthetics, the "I'm better than you," attitude displayed by bartenders regardless of night, a non-existant bar manager or one unwilling to make himself known when questionable incidents occur, overpriced watered-down drinks, and worst of all recycled late 90's early 2000 videos! (or maybe that's a good thing?) Better luck down the street.
So, what do you say?
